Further, the twine lobe model has three impellers, in each shaft rotating in opposite direction and the rotary positive displacement compressor twin lobe model has two figures, eight impellers rotating in opposite directions

Approximately, one-fourth of the quantity of air is trapped while the displacement of the compressor, Medium Pressure Twin Lobe Pumps of an impeller passes the compressor inlet. Moving the entrained air around the case to the compressor outlet, this entrapment occurs four times per revolution. In relation to each other, the Ground helical timing gears accurately position the impellers and to maintain the minute clearances of the rotary positive compressor, so vital to the high volumetric efficiency. Back to the suction side of the compressor, a slight amount of air escapes past the operating clearances because the compressor operates with very close internal tolerances. For any given compressor, this leakage, defined as 'slip' is a predictable constant volume at any given pressure.

This leakage is expressed in compressor rpm., for ease in calculation. For each compressor size a standard slip has been established, based on handling air at standard condition. When calculating total operating speed of the unit, the slip will vary and must be taken into consideration for gases having a specific gravity other than 1.0. To give highest volumetric efficiency, this twin lobe compressor is built with the closest possible tolerances.
